Nehemiah Homeownership Success Story
147 families earning less than $55,000 annually become homeowners at Dupont Commons - an award-winning joint project of WIN, Enterprise Homes and the Fort Dupont Residents Council. Funding was provided by major religious denominations (Catholic, Episcopal, Lutheran and Methodist), the DC Dept. of Housing and Community Development, the DC Housing Authority, the US Treasury, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta, PNC Bank (formerly Riggs Bank), and Fannie Mae.

All Phone Bank Volunteers should report to Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, 1219 New Jersey Ave., NW (just below Dunbar SHS) phone 347-5562. To sign-up for the phone bank, leaders should organize a team of 5-10 volunteers to work the 5-7 PM or 7-9 PM shifts and notify WIN by sending an send an e-mail to vrunoiaf@gmail.com or call WIN at 202-518-0815 and leave a message for WIN organizer Amy Vruno.

Recent Significant Events

- WIN leaders go all-out through the Summer and leading up to the September 12 Primary Day to increase the number of voters voting in select precincts by 15% and to educate on WIN's "Vote Neighborhoods First" agenda - $1 billion fund for neighborhood improvement, 14,000 new affordable housing units, and a $350 million Youth Investment Fund to rebuild and restore facilities and programs for DC youth.

- Five mayoral candidates commit to WIN's Neighborhoods First agenda of $1 billion in funding, $197 million for affordable housing (and 14,000 units) and a $350 million Youth Investment Fund for rec centers and youth programs.

- Baseball Financing Deal includes a $450 million Community Benefits Fund.

- WIN and Northwest #1 leaders negotiate an agreement with DC to develop a joint revitalization plan to save 1,000+ Section 8 apartments.

- WIN's Dupont Commons Nehemiah Development in Ward 7 wins Affordable Housing Finance Award for best affordable housing project in 2005.

- WIN leaders and neighborhood organizations initiate action to reopen Fort Stanton Rec Center and develop plans for a neighborhood police station and school improvements.
